“The people at the Readyville Mill made sure that every detail was attended to.” - Christina
The 2,016 square foot granary is heated, cooled and equipped with restrooms, tables and chairs to accommodate 75 for family style dining. During the Mill’s active operation, farmers from the surrounding countryside would bring their corn and wheat to be ground, with the resulting cornmeal and flour being stored in the Granary while awaiting sale.
Connected to the Granary is the Icehouse, which today is an open space used for congregating and dancing. But previously, ice made at the Mill was stored here in blocks, ready to be delivered to the good folks of Readyville.
Robert Carter built the Miller’s Cabin in the 1880’s as a residence for the miller, but today’s renovated cabin has been outfitted with plumbing, electricity, and other modern conveniences. The Miller’s Cabin is a fantastic place for a small group or for a soon-to-be bride to prepare for the big day. The cabin has a full kitchen, bathroom with a shower, a sleeping loft and a main room - all comfortably furnished and decorated.
Last, but certainly not least, is the mill building itself. Once a productive turbine-driven gristmill, the Readyville Mill is open to our guests during their events and it is available for tours of 10 or more persons by appointment. In the upcoming months, the mill will be fully refurbished and once again, ready for action as a gristmill. (Look for our fresh ground products in the near future!)
