About the Mill

“A short drive to step back in time…”

– Karen Ford

The beautiful, historic Readyville Mill, restaurant and event venue consists of five newly restored buildings: The Grist Mill, the Granary, the Icehouse, the Miller’s Cabin, and the Smokehouse, all located on six idyllic acres along the Stones River in Cannon County, Tennessee.

The Mill is a continuing restoration in progress.  Historically, mills were the machines that converted gravity driven water into mechanical power for doing work: grinding corn and wheat, sawing lumber, and generating electricity. The Readyville Mill has been restored to once again grind corn and wheat using electrical power,  and it is open and available to visitors who are interested in seeing how a 19th Century mill works.  There is nothing like the flavor of stone ground grits, cornmeal and whole wheat flour, and the Readyville Mill grinds all of those delicacies and more.

Early in the history of the Mill,  the Granary and the Icehouse served as storage spaces for the products of the mill. Today the fully air-conditioned and heated Granary is a full service restaurant that accommodates 60 for family style dining,  while the open space of the adjoining Icehouse accommodates about 40 people for family style dining, and is also ideal for meetings, retreats, seminars, workshops, family gatherings, dancing and socializing.  Our menu is directly related to our Gristmill products, and you will find our pancakes, corncakes, and grits to be the most delicious food you ever put in your mouth!

Since the Readyville Mill re-opened in 2009, we have hosted over 200 weddings, receptions and rehearsal dinners, along with birthday parties, luncheon meetings and more.  With a parlor, sleeping loft, kitchen, and bath (with shower), the Miller’s Cabin, located just behind the Granary and the Ice House, is the perfect place for a bride and her bridesmaids to relax in the country air, hang out together, dress and prepare themselves for that magical moment: a wedding at the Readyville Mill.

Nestled in the hills of Middle Tennessee, Readyville Mill was once a thriving Gristmill, driving innovation and economics for the surrounding countryside. The mill has provided the people of Cannon County with corn and flour from the grist mill, lumber from a sawmill, ice, spirits, and even generated the first electricity for the village of Readyville.

Once again the Readyville Mill is open to the community, not only as a working Gristmill, but also as a full service restaurant, gift shop and event venue.  This beautiful setting is now a place to celebrate! The Mill buildings have been given new life, the gardens are full of blooming flowers for every season, and the newly renovated spaces are prepared to host your special occasion.   So come on out and become part of the living history of The Readyville Mill, in Readyville, Tennessee!
